GROF® Legacy Training Brazil

"Grof Transpersonal Training (GTT) is an international training, developed in 1988, structured and conducted worldwide by Stanislav Grof and Christina Grof who facilitated holotropic breathwork sessions for more than 25,000 people until 1994, when Christina Grof decided to leave to dedicate herself to giving lectures and writing". (Kylea Taylor, 1994)

In Brazil, the GTT coordination was structured and led, initially, from 1995, by Doucy Douek, psychologist and transpersonal therapist, who conducted the training and formed, with the supervision and direction of Stanislav Grof, the first group of facilitators in September 1997, in São Paulo, in which Álvaro Jardim, Carmen Maciel and 26 other participants participated.

In 1998, Álvaro Jardim and Carmen Maciel participated in the Grof Transpersonal Training Advanced Training, led by Tav Sparks, Diane Haug and Kylea Taylor, which took place at the Conscious Wave Conference Center in Paulden, Arizona. Upon returning from advanced training, they responded to the invitation of Stan Grof and Tav Sparks to co-coordinate the GTT in Brazil.

In 1998/1999, Stan Grof withdrew from the world leadership of training and passed it on to Tav Sparks and Cary Sparks, current directors and owners of the GTT worldwide.

In February 1999, Álvaro and Carmem started coordinating the module “The Cosmic Game: Frontiers of Human Consciousness”, taught by Stan Grof and Tav Sparks, at the Serro Park Hotel, Municipality of Guapó, GO, which became the venue of modules in Brazil. The new coordinators also brought Tav Sparks and Jill Moore to Brazil, in July and August 1999, to teach two more modules “The Practice of Holotropic Breathwork - Part A (Bodywork)” and “The Practice of Holotropic Breathwork - Part B (Music ). ” From 22 to 27 September 2000 ”, Stan Grof and Tav Sparks came to teach“ The Architecture of Psychopathology. ”

Since 2001, in common agreement, Álvaro Jardim and Carmen Maciel decided not to coordinate the GTT in Brazil anymore, due to the serious financial crisis in Brazil.

In May 2007, Tav Sparks invited Álvaro Jardim to participate as a GTT facilitator in Taos Sky Valley and there the terms were agreed for Álvaro Jardim to become the director and coordinator of the GTT program in Brazil.

In March 2008, a new training phase was started at Espaço Natureza Arco-Íris, in the municipality of São Roque, SP, Brazil, with two modules, “The Power Within: The Practice of Holotropic Breathwork (A, Body Work)” and “Music and Transcendence: The Practice of Holotropic Breathwork (B),” led by Tav Sparks and Álvaro Jardim. In these modules, Dora Jardim was certified under the supervision and direction of Tav Sparks.

As of June 2009, Dora and Álvaro Jardim became owners of the GTT Brasil certification program and carried out two more modules, "Spiritual Emergency: Embracing unexpected transformation" and "The Spiritual Quest, Attachment and Addiction", with Tav Sparks and Álvaro Jardim.

From January 25 to 30, 2010, Dora Jardim started to lead the modules with Álvaro Jardim and taught “The Power Within: The Practice of Holotropic Breathwork A (body work)”. In September 2010, two more modules were held, “In the arms of the dragon: creating our daily individual holotropic yoga” and “Psychopathology and the Holotropic Perspective,” with Tav Sparks, Álvaro Jardim and Dora Jardim.

In April 2011, two new modules were conducted, “Living with death” and “The psychedelic experience: Promises and perils,” with Diane Haug, Álvaro Jardim and Dora Jardim. From April 16 to 21, 2012, Álvaro Jardim and Dora Jardim led the module “Music and Transcendence: The Practice of Holotropic Breathwork B.” And from October 1st to 6th, Tav Sparks came to Brazil to lead with Álvaro Jardim and Dora Jardim the module "Spiritual Emergency: embracing unexpected transformation."

From April 22 to 27, 2013, Diane Haug returned to Espaço Natureza Arco-Íris, in São Roque, SP, Brazil, to teach the module “Shamanism: An exploration of traditional wisdom” along with Álvaro Jardim and Dora Jardim. In May 2014, Álvaro Jardim and Dora Jardim gave the module “The IPower Within: The Practice of Holotropic Breathwork A (Body Work)” and, from November 10 to 15, 2014, they started working at Fazenda Sítio Velho where conducted the module “The holotropic paradigm: the psyche, the inner healer and moving towards wholeness”.

In April 2015, we had the presence of Stanislav Grof, MD, Ph.D., at the Maksoud Plaza Hotel, in São Paulo, SP, giving two two-day seminars, each called “Legacy of Half a Century of Consciousness Research” and “Vision of Modern Research on Consciousness about Art, Sexuality, Greed and Human Violence”, with translation by Karin Grunwald. Participants in these seminars were able to transform them into GTT modules by participating in holotropic breathwork workshops of four days each on subsequent dates, June, August and November 2015.

As of 2016, Álvaro continued to lead, but stopped managing GTT Brasil and started to count on the support of Marina Faveri, Mayara Jardim and, later, Gabriela Dworecki.

In March 2016 we had the module The Power Within and the Practice of Holotropic Breathwork, with Álvaro Jardim and Dora Jardim, from 07 to 12, and Music and the Practice of Holotropic Breathwork, from 14 to 19, both at Fazenda da Sítio Velho, Areias, SP.

From October 17 to 22, 2016, at Fazenda Sítio Velho, Areis, SP., Eduardo Schenberg and Álvaro Jardim conducted the module “The Renaissance of Psychedelic Research and Stanislav Grof's Clinical Methodology.” From March 20 to 25, 2017, Antonio Pedro Goulart and Álvaro Jardim held the module “The Holotropic Paradigm: The psyche, the Innner Healer and move towards wholeness” and from March 27 to April 1, Álvaro Jardim taught the module “The Art of Integration in Holotropic Breathwork.”

Under the coordination of Débora Diógenes, from the 5th to the 10th of June 2017, we also started the GTT in Natal, RN, at the Hotel Porto do Mar, with the module “The Power Within: The Practice of Holotropic Breathwork A (Body Work), taught by Álvaro and Dora Jardim. At the Hotel Porto do Mar, in Natal, RN, we held another module “Music and Transcendence: the Practice of Holotropic Breathwork B, from March 18 to 23, 2019 and at Búzios Beach, Nízia Floresta, RN, from 11 on November 16, 2019, Álvaro Jardim taught the module “The Art of Integrating Experiences.”

At Sítio Velho Farm, Areias, SP, the following modules were also conducted:
- Spiritual Emergency: embracing unexpected transformation, with Álvaro and Dora Jardim, Antonio Pedro Goulart and Karin Grunwald, from May 6th to 11th, 2019;

Stan and I had talked a few times about Grof Training, the psychedelic renaissance and scientific research at Psychedelic Science 2017 promoted by MAPS and the Heffter Research Institute in Oakland, CA, in April 2017. Then I was in San Francisco, CA ., in August 2019, at the invitation of Stan Grof and again we talked about the launch of his Encyclopedia, The Way of the Psychonaut, and the film The Journey of Consciousness by Stanislav Grof. After Stan and Brigitte explained about the Legacy Grof project, I realized that this project brought a broader platform, which works with holotropic states of consciousness in many contexts, in addition to considering a holotropic approach to understanding and studying art, the crisis global environmental and many other human activities, and that recognizes and supports the transmitters of its work. So, I was touched and mobilized to participate in the project to carry out his Legacy.

Moved by these objectives and many others I chose to leave the direction of GTT Brasil. I am very grateful to Tav and Cary Sparks for all the contribution that was directed to us through loving and respectful attention, teaching and guidance, learning as friends and professionals, as we had a very rich journey not only personally, but through GTT, emails and through all means by which we communicate, including through the two-year partnership at Fires Creek Center in South North Carolina in the USA.

We also want to warmly thank the entire holotropic community that has walked with us here and that in one way or another has been with us at GTT, continuing to maintain the ties that have united us and continue to unite.

Upon accepting Stan and Brigitte's invitation, Dora and I signed the “Contract as Teachers of the GROF® Legacy Training” e a “Licença e Autorização para treinar no Grof Legacy” recebendo o “GROF® Legacy Training Certificate” como professores por eles autorizados. Consequentemente Álvaro e Dora Jardim desenvolveram e são os proprietários e responsáveis pelo Grof Legacy Training Brasil – O Caminho do Psiconauta, que tem como objetivo preparar pessoas, através de suas jornadas de autodescoberta, transformação e cura e de estudos teóricos, a se qualificarem para serem educadas e trabalharem com estados holotrópicos em vários contextos, tais como :

- Experienced assistants and facilitators in psychedelic sessions;
- Supporters of persons in spiritual emergency;
– Facilitadores, participantes e assistentes de respiração holotrópica (Grof® Breathwork);
- Students of transpersonal psychology;
- Assistants supporting dying people;
- Apprentices in the study of archetypal astrology for work with holotropic states of consciousness.
